Our favourite Devon beach. Almost don't want to review it to keep it under the radar! But - no facilities AT ALL. Car park on top of the beach and free all day once you've paid the road toll (2 at this moment). Nice drive on this road through protected marshland by the banks of the Taw. Long stretch of sandy beach with safe brackish water (River Taw estuary meets the Atlantic). If you don't mind a short walk you can get to the Wreck on the Neck and what is the southern most tip of Saunton Sands, even less people here, views of Appledore and Instow from this part of the estuary. Braunton Burrows are here too, important part of the North Devon Biospehere. So good walks to be had, lovely beach to relax on and safe waters for leisure use. Pretty much perfect.
Such a lovely place... peacefull ! You have to pay a toll to get there...but at least its the same price as the parking in adjacent spots.
If you want nothing but bleakness then this is your place. Pay to go through toll to drive up a long narrow path which eventually leads to a parking area for a few cars. Good area to let the dog run. But no refreshments available. I found it a waste of money and could have gone along many of the miles of coasts in that area for free.
Fantastic walks. Dog friendly. Great day out. Via a toll road 2.
Wild, stunning and uncrowded. Beautiful and worth the 2 toll fare to park close to the beach.
